Our boys went to New Zealand and brought back a Hobbit Hole (pictured above). Why, you may ask? Taylor and I shared many evenings reading various tales from Tolkien. For me, it seemed a grand adventure indeed. Not only the story but inventing the tale. So, the Hobbit Hole resides on my desk and reminds me of adventure and stories.
Of course, that’s the Imagine piece of what we do. We help clients imagine their grand adventures and then help them build the systems to achieve their dreams. Often new clients ask why all the questions. I suppose Gandalf had reason to understand the adventure they were undertaking, but Bilbo was just along for the ride. The same with clients; some have a great vision of what they want to achieve such as travel, gifting or purchasing a special getaway place. Some are simply along for the ride.
For those of you who have read the tales, play along. I believe Gandalf had the foresight to gather the right company of adventurers; Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves etc. Each had their role to aid in the adventure. Similarly, you might have a tax advisor, estate attorney and of course, Harvest Financial. Regardless of how clear your vision or how detailed the plan, Orcs happen. Orcs got in the way of our adventurers and sometimes it might be an illness, nursing home stay, market downturns or accidents, but it happens. There should be a Plan B or reserve to pivot to.
If you have visited our office, you know the role imagination plays in our conference room. There is Disney paraphernalia, mementos of family and past adventures, all with the hopes of sparking imagination. In the background, are computers and programs and models and research to support and back up our advice. I believe our most important tool is our ears and inquiring minds. The story is what sets you apart and demands something other than cookie cutter remedies. Your adventure is what challenges us to aid you when and where we can.
